The Staghorn Fern is an unusual plant, being both an air plant and a fern. In its natural environment of tropical forests, the plant grows on tree trunks or rocks, absorbing moisture from the humid air and collecting nutrients from the falling leaves of overhead trees. As a houseplant, it is typically mounted on a surface and displayed on a wall. The plant has two types of fronds: the lower shield-shaped fronds, which are brown when mature, and the plentiful antler-shaped fronds, which are the most decorative part of the plant and also show how the Staghorn Fern got its common name.

We recommend planting this plug in our Epiphyte soil.

**IMPORTANT NOTE:
THIS PLANT SHIPS AS A 1″ FULLY ROOTED STARTER PLANT, AS SHOWN IN THE SECOND PHOTO. It will come wrapped in moss and tucked in a growers pot for safety. The terra cotta pot with the mature plant, shown in the first photo, is not included. If you order multiple plants, we put them together in one pot so they stay moist and insulated. If you think we haven’t sent the full order, please take out the plants from the pot first to count them.

Notes:

  • Great as an epiphyte mounting or in hanging pots.
  • Grows most vigorously in a bright, warm area (direct sun can cause leaf burn).
  • Water cautiously according to growing medium and conditions. The root ball should be allowed to dry slightly between soakings.
  • The brown fuzz/dust on the antler fronds are the plant's spores and should NOT be removed.
  • Needs high humidity.
