Vanilla Bean Orchid

1" STARTER PLANT *Terracotta pot in photo sold separately. Everyone knows the scent and taste of vanilla. But did you know that all vanilla comes from the fruit of an orchid? Of the tens of thousands of orchids known to the world, Vanilla planifolia is the only orchid to produce an edible fruit and what an amazing fruit that has turned out to be… For 300 years, no one was able to get the orchids to bear fruit. Then, in 1836, it was discovered that a miniscule bee (the Melipone) was the sole pollinator of the vanilla orchid. Outside of their native habitat of Mexico, vanilla plant flowers must be hand-pollinated in order to produce the fruit. This means all the vanilla coming from other countries is hand pollinated. You can understand why vanilla is the most expensive spice after saffron!

Effie, the Fittonia argyroneura (Nerve Plant)

1" STARTER PLANT *Terracotta pot in photo sold separately. Meet Effie. Her nerves are on display but in the vein of pluckiness rather than timidity. She loves a good tromp though humid climes and will always appreciate the gift of a humidity tray or regular misting. She even encourages you to create a tiny terrarium adventure for her, as it's one of her favorite habitats! Not a desert gal, Effie prefers filtered gentle light and will get a sunburn in direct sunlight.

Lilah, the Tradescantia Fluminensis (Lilac Wandering Jew)

1" STARTER PLANT *Terracotta pot in photo sold separately. Meet Lilah. This cute spunky girl can't wait to spread her cascading rainbow of colorful foliage into your living space. Looking like little pink bows, her fleshy leaves are a mixture of white, green, pink, and mauve stripes and blotches. Treat her right and she may even reward you with her small white flowers. Never stick Lilah in a dark corner, or she will show her dislike of the area by losing her beautiful colors. She will look the prettiest with lots of bright indirect light every day. Lilah loves a good hair cut, and asks that you keep her maintained. Her trailing tendrils have a tendency to get leggy, so pruning them becomes a must if you want to maintain a healthy appearance. Lilah is a plant that you need to know: low maintenance, fun, and easy!

Hope, the Peperomia

1" STARTER PLANT *Terracotta pot in photo sold separately. Meet Hope. She would like everyone to know that they CAN be successful plant parents! Put her in a spot with bright indirect light and watch her go with the flow. Hope is considered semi-succulent so you can let her dry out between soakings. She is curious about her surroundings and will trail around, discovering new things... but you can always trim her tips to keep her closer to home.

Oscar, the Opuntia monacantha variegata (Variegated Prickly Pear)

And he's so easy going, all he really wants is bright sun and to be on the dry side. He's definitely one to stake out his sunny spot by the pool and never dip his toes in! Once he matures in life, he'll produce a delicious fruit, but Oscar is lovable no matter what his age.

Aloe Vera

1" STARTER PLANT *Terracotta pot in photo sold separately. Aloe vera is grown for its succulent leaves which have a variety of culinary and medicinal uses. The leaves contain a clear gel that's a popular home remedy. According to the Mayo Clinic, this substance may shorten the healing of first- and second-degree burns and promote wound healing. Perennial in zones 9+, aloe is typically grown as a houseplant since it won't overwinter in cooler climates. Very little water is required. These drought-resistant plants grow best in hot, dry areas and excessive water could cause them to rot. Water regularly but allow soil to dry out before watering again. During the winter months, water only enough to keep the leaves from shriveling.

Ramona, the Peperomia puteolata (Parallel Peperomia)

1" STARTER PLANT *Terracotta pot in photo sold separately. Meet Ramona. She hits the personality sweet spot...neither too trendy nor too eccentric. She likes straight lines as you can tell by her leaf pattern and her stems. But check out the red on her stems and you'll see she has a little bit of sass tucked away! Semi-succulent, so go easy on the water and give her bright light (but not direct sun).
