Aloe Vera

1" STARTER PLANT *Terracotta pot in photo sold separately. Aloe vera is grown for its succulent leaves which have a variety of culinary and medicinal uses. The leaves contain a clear gel that's a popular home remedy. According to the Mayo Clinic, this substance may shorten the healing of first- and second-degree burns and promote wound healing. Perennial in zones 9+, aloe is typically grown as a houseplant since it won't overwinter in cooler climates. Very little water is required. These drought-resistant plants grow best in hot, dry areas and excessive water could cause them to rot. Water regularly but allow soil to dry out before watering again. During the winter months, water only enough to keep the leaves from shriveling.

With his intriguing looks and magnetic personality, he easily draws people toward him. But don't make a fuss over Axel! As a succulent, he has a love of dry conditions and too much water is his downfall. Bright light in all directions is what he loves best or else he'll grow a little awkwardly towards the nearest source. Remember his love for balance! Rotating him several times a week can keep him on the straight and narrow.
