Selene, the Fern Leaf Cactus
DECEMBER 2022 HOLIDAY SHIPPING NOTICE: Live plant orders must be placed by noon (MST) on Monday, December 12th. After this deadline, the inventory will drop to zero to prevent accidental ordering. Inventory will reappear on December 27th and shipping will resume on January 2nd. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with questions, we will be checking messages consistently during this time.
Meet Selene. If you go through town, past the duck pond filled with cattails, which is next to the field that has 3 llamas, 2 cows and a donkey, and turn left at the very next cottonwood tree, you will reach the magical cottage of Selene. Her neighbors aren’t sure whether to be frightened or awestruck of the one that is said to hold “the power of the moon”, but they will tell you that her garden is the prettiest of any they have ever seen. However, the flowers of her garden, every single one of them, only bloom on nights with a full moon. How is this possible? We don’t ask. She doesn’t tell.
We recommend planting this plug in our Epiphyte soil.
THIS PLANT SHIPS AS A 1″ FULLY ROOTED STARTER PLANT, AS SHOWN IN THE SECOND PHOTO. It will come wrapped in moss and tucked in a growers pot for safety. The terra cotta pot with the mature plant, shown in the first photo, is not included. If you order multiple plants, we put them together in one pot so they stay moist and insulated. If you think we haven’t sent the full order, please take out the plants from the pot first to count them.
Winter shipping has begun… as a heartfelt thank you, this year we are including free winter protection (thermal insulation liners every time and heat packs as necessary) in each box. *Free winter protection only available through website orders, not our Etsy shop
- Very long stems can safely be cut back to shorten the plant. New stems will grow right from the cut spot making your plant grow back fuller.
- The white flowers bloom nocturnally, exuding a strong, sweet scent.
- The fernleaf cactus is a forest epiphyte from Mexico and loves high humidity. To increase the humidity, position the pot on a tray filled with gravel and keep this topped up with water, but not enough so that the pot is sitting in water.
